About HardBoiledTech.com
“I’ve met a lot of hardboiled eggs in my time, but you… you’re twenty minutes.” -Billy Wilder
I’m Ken Zamkow. Over the past 10+ years I’ve been involved in management, strategy, product development, marketing, and business development in new media and tech. I’ve worked with startups like Flixwagon, Drop.io, and the stealthy Project Honeybee, and with large media companies like Cox Communications and Business Wire. I’ve also founded my own a web development firm. Somewhere in between I got an MBA from Darden Business School at the University of Virginia (highly recommend the experience!), and occasionally am invited to speak to students about online media at New York schools like Columbia Business School, Baruch College, and Fordham University. I live in NYC with my adventurous Jack Russell Terrier Daisy.
I had a number of blogs over the years, and blog on behalf of the companies I work for, but this is now the official place where I share my thoughts on internet, technology, and business in general — hopefully with a somewhat different twist from what you may get elsewhere.
In Billy Wilder’s 1951 movie Ace in the Hole, Jan Sterling calls Kirk Douglas a 20-minute hardboiled egg for his unflinching demeanor.
I’m not sure if I’m a 20-minute hardboiled egg yet (and certainly not the dodgy character Kirk Douglas plays in the movie), but I’ve been cooking in the digital media pot for some time now. Hope you enjoy my take on media and tech.

Quotes and Mentions:
“All things considered, the Flixwagon team did a great job of communicating with me (and I’m sure others) during their private pre-alpha phase. They were quick to fix even seemingly large flaws, sometimes putting out minor updates more than once a day. I dont think I waited more than 24 hours for a response to any email I sent to them, even after the private phase was over. One thing is for sure: the Flixwagon team cares about their product. A special thanks goes out to Ken and the Flixwagon team for allowing me into their private development phase. You’re all going places. Congratulations on making the public alpha, and may great things come in the beta and beyond!”

“At a high level, Ken characterizes Flixwagon in this way: “We think this is a great technology because it makes things easier and simpler. It costs a fraction of what a broadcast crew costs so it is a way to revolutionize broadcast content. You can create a lot of engagement with much lower cost than ever before. That’s what the web is all about.” Indeed, this sort of thing is exactly what the web does well.”

“Flixwagon announced yesterday that their live mobile broadcasting application is now available for iPhone 3G and for original iPhones running firmware 2.0.1. On their blog says:
“After being first to broadcast from iPhones back in June, and first to launch our public iPhone app for 1.1.4
in July, we’re now releasing our app for iPhone 3G and original iPhone 2.0.x. This means we now support all iPhone models and firmware!””

“Ken Zamkow discusses Business Wire’s new multimedia features:http://eon.businesswire.com/news/eon/20080211106194/en”
“When Business Wire decided to get actively involved in new media I did a thorough search of individuals to lead the effort and hired Ken Zamkow because of his creativity and fresh thinking and his thorough knowledge of new media and technology. Ken was an excellent choice for the position because of his innate intelligence, his enthusiasm and passion for the job and his ability to get things done. He positioned Business Wire to be a leader in new media, he worked extremely well with our partners in the industry and he showed great leadership skills in making the subject understandable to our entire sales force. I give Ken a very high recommendation for his intellect, his work ethic, his passion for the job and his ability to get things done.” Michael Lissauer, EVP Strategy and Marketing, Business Wire
